The Marsh Quilters originally came together because of a common interest in patchwork, quiltmaking, appliqué, embroidery and related subjects.

In 1979 a group of women who supported the “Save The Walthamstow Marshes Campaign” began meeting in their homes to create a quilt. This quilt was used by the Walthamstow Marsh Society to promote the marshes as an educational resource.

From this humble beginning, other quilts were made to raise funds for a variety of charities and the Marsh Quilters were born.

In 2004 they were asked to design and make a communion table covering for  Leytonstone United Free Church where the group meets. It took a few years to bring the project to completion, but in 2009 the cloth was presented the Church.
