Judi Mendelssohn - a quilting journey
Judi was our first guest speaker at the zoom meeting on 1st October. She gave us a fascinating account of her travels leading groups of quilters across the world, visiting quilt exhibitions and eminent quilting teachers. Highlights included visits to Paducah, Kentucky, the outdoor quilt show in Oregon, the Nantes quilt show and the Tokyo quilt show. Her photographs whetted our appetites for when normal service resumes!
English Paper Piecing – so much more than hexagons!
What a fascinating evening with Nancy Adamek as she share her quilting journey to her destination of English Paper piecing which eventually led her to setting up her own business. She shared many of the quilts she had made, her successes and ones she considered less than perfect (n.b. they all looked good!) and many of those present were inspired to give English Paper piecing a try. Quilt Show 2019
Did you miss this year’s quilt show? Visited but want to see the quilts again? Looking for inspiration from your members?
Good news! The quilts have now been uploaded to the website.
If one of your quilts was on show back in June and you cannot see it on the website, please let us know via the contact form and we will add it.
Quilted Postcards
At our October meeting we were pleased to welcome Maria Spiller from Warley and Childerditch Quilters demonstrating quilted postcards. This is a beautiful and simple way of sending personalised greetings that will give great pleasure to the receiver. Maria brought a few samples from her own collection, some antique, some modern, some that were made as part of a postcard exchange challenge.
Quilts for Richard House Children’s Hospice
Marsh Quilters were invited to make some items for a special room called ‘The Rainbow Room’. They included a single bed quilt, a cot quilt and two cushions.
Richard House Children’s hospice supports families in London whose children and young adults are at risk of death from a life limiting health condition.
The Rainbow theme is used in all children’s hospices and the blue house is their logo.
Many of our members were involved with making these items from the initial design to sewing and quilting each piece.
Christmas Challenge 2017
We had great fun at our Christmas party at the beginning of December when members also brought their Christmas challenge pieces with them. Members voted during the evening for their favourite one and at the end of the evening Kathy Duffy came through victorious! Well done Kathy.
